You probably already know that Rob Zombie is working on The Munsters as a movie? Well, this week he released a teaser trailer for it.
I want to say it looks like a fan-film, but that’s mean. The teaser is just the opening credits of the original series and there are no details yet about the plot of the movie.
It has been written and directed by Rob Zombie and it stars… wait for it… Sheri Moon Zombie, Daniel Roebuck and Jeff Daniel Phillips. I didn’t see the casting of Zombie’s wife coming at all.
Zombie has assured fans that The Munsters movie is:
“…100 percent in the spirit of the show. I didn’t want it to be different. I wanted to totally retain the vibe that it had in the ’60s.”
The new movie will also be PG-13 for “macabre and suggestive material, scary images and language”. The movie will be in colour, though, and not black and white as the original series was, Zombie said about this:
“I knew that if I went in and demanded ‘This movie’s going to be in black and white or forget it!’ we would not be talking about the Munsters right now, because it would have never happened. I guaran-f—ing-tee it. But what I did do is I made the colors sort of hyper-real.
I noticed when the actors were in their makeup and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I was like, I have to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live action cartoon, which was really exciting.”
I’ve said it before and I’ll carry on saying it, Rob Zombie is not a very good director. I’ve dragged myself through a couple of his movies and they are just not very good. I recently tried his Halloween and then had no intention of watching the second one he did.
Rob always likes to work with his wife, but maybe she shouldn’t have picked the major role of Herman’s wife in this? As someone said on social media:
“Imagine being such a bad actor that Lily Munster is out of your range?”
I know I’m being a mean old bastard about this, but am I wrong? Are you looking forward to this?
