PINOCCHIO Live Action Remake Trailer

Pinocchio is a pretty messed up story. A puppet wanting to be real, a talking cricket as a conscience, young lads turning into donkeys. It’s a very strange tale, but also a bit of a classic at the same time.

With Disney finding it hard to have any original ideas, they have now made a live-action version of Pinocchio and there is a trailer online.

This remake stars Tom Hanks, Lorraine Bracco, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Luke Evans, Cynthia Erivo, and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Pinocchio. It’s directed by Robert Zemeckis, who also has a writing credit, alongside Simon Farnby and Chris Weitz. It is based on the original story by Carlo Collodi.

Zemeckis has had a pretty amazing career, with movies like Used Cars, Romancing the Stone, Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump, Contact, Cast Away, and the Back to the Future trilogy under his belt. Lately, he’s been embracing CGI and making movies like A Christmas Carol, The Polar Express, and Beowulf.

I was not a fan of the last three. The CG looked too CG and I remember that while Tom Hanks was good in The Polar Express, the character just seemed to have dead eyes. There was just no spark there.

This live-action remake of Pinocchio looks the same. Obviously, there seems to be a lot of the live-action, but the CG still looks just wrong.

I am not the only one with reservations. While writing this, the trailer seems to be being ratioed pretty hard, with the Likes at 27k but the Dislikes at 107k.

Pinocchio will be streaming on 8th September 2022.
