It’s official, Netflix has given the green light for a second season of its South Korean global sensation “Squid Game”.
The show’s creator, writer, director, and producer returns for the new run and in a message to fans confirmed that characters like Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) and the black-masked The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) will return.
He adds the ddakji-playing The Salesman (Gong Yoo) may be back, and revealed one new element. Remember the giant motion-sensing robot girl ‘Young-hee’ from the Red Light, Green Light game? We’re going to meet her other half from that Korean tale – the boy Cheol-su.
The first season premiered in September last year and within days quickly became Netflix’s most-watched series of all time – amassing 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first four weeks, a record that has yet to be broken. In addition, the series scored critical acclaim with three of its cast winning major SAG and Golden Globe awards.
It’s expected the second season won’t air on the streamer until sometime in 2024.
