Scarlett Johansson Slated to Appear in Upcoming Drama
Scarlett Johansson has agreed to appear in actress-turned-director Kristin Scott Thomas‘s upcoming film, My Mother’s Wedding.
Scarlett Johansson had a few problems getting the financial contract for Black Widow in order last year so she could secure a salary that was appropriate for pandemic times. Now, the acclaimed actress is back and will be making My Mother’s Wedding with acclaimed actress Kristin Scott Thomas serving as director of the upcoming movie.
This forthcoming movie is now in production and will bring two very distinct talents together. Little has been revealed at the present time about the movie’s story line, however. Among the supporting players who will be showcased in the picture are Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), Sienna Miller (American Sniper) and Emily Beecham (Daphne).
Scarlett Johansson needs no introduction. She is one of the most consistently reliable and talented actresses working today. She received an Oscar nod for her leading work in Marriage Story and also one for her supporting role in Jojo Rabbit. Both these nods came in the same year but many believe she was snubbed for her work in 2003’s Lost in Translation in which she starred with Bill Murray. She also played a nice role in We Bought a Zoo where she played Matt Damon’s new co-worker at the zoo of the film’s title.
Kristin Scott Thomas was once a tremendously appealing romantic leading lady in tearjerkers from the mid to late 1990’s. Two powerful dramas come to mind that highlighted her tremendous acting abilities. One was The English Patient from 1996 where she played alongside Ralph Fiennes (she earned an Oscar nod for this one) while the other was 1998’s The Horse Whisperer where she played opposite the legendary Robert Redford. Now, turning her talents to the other side of the camera, all eyes will be on My Mother’s Wedding to see just how dramatically satisfying it could be.
Freida Pinto is the most prominent of the names in the supporting cast since she starred in the Best Picture Oscar winner from 2008, Slumdog Millionaire. Pinto may have been the film’s most radiant star but hasn’t really had that truly great role since she appeared in that Academy Award winner. She’s been doing smaller roles in good (but not great) films like Hillbilly Elegy and one can only hope Pinto’s role in My Mother’s Wedding gets her the attention she deserves.
Sienna Miller starred opposite Bradley Cooper in the 2014 Oscar-nominated picture, American Sniper. Miller is a talent that commands the audience’s attention and is a nice welcome addition to Scott Thomas’s upcoming picture.
Scarlett Johansson brings sophistication to whatever project she takes on and My Mother’s Wedding has just gone to the top of her fan’s must-see list. Lets see if Scott Thomas can steer the always wonderful Johansson to another Oscar nomination.
