NGL and Shawn have been discussing some of the most controversial movies ever made, in a series of discussions about Exploitation Cinema. The boys are back. This time, the movie is Henry Portrait Of A Serial Killer from 1986.
The movie was very different from all of the slasher movies from the 80s. Most of them were about supernatural villains, such as Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street, or a crazy person killing people like Michael Myers in the Halloween series.
Henry was more of a normal, everyday man who had psychotic tendencies. The movie was an amazing character study of an American serial killer who would kill people at random. It’s almost like a documentary, and the way it is shot contains no humor at all.
The story is simple:
“Arriving in Chicago, Henry moves in with ex-con acquaintance Otis and starts schooling him in the ways of the serial killer.”
It is a great movie and put Michael Rooker on the map, even though he’s now more knowns as Mary Poppins Y’all from Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
