Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Map May Have Been Revealed in Modern Warfare 2 Trailer

For what it’s worth, the Modern Warfare 2 team has strongly indicated that there may be something to those reports. Following the reveal of Modern Warfare 2‘s gameplay footage during Summer Game Fest 2022, members of the Modern Warfare 2 team addressed the growing fan interest in Warzone 2‘s map and even seemingly referenced one of the areas of that map that Henderson suggested was quietly showcased in the Modern Warfare 2 trailer. At the very least, they confirmed that the Warzone 2 map is set in the Modern Warfare 2 universe, which would seem to support the idea that some of the areas we saw in the Modern Warfare 2 trailer footage will be carried over to the Warzone 2 map.

Furthermore, the Modern Warfare 2 trailer strongly suggests that Highrise (a popular multiplayer map featured in 2009’s Modern Warfare 2) will return in 2022’s Modern Warfare 2. Not only do some of the urban areas teased in the Modern Warfare 2 trailer strongly resemble a slightly reimagined version of the classic Highrise map, but other Warzone 2 leakers have reported that they’ve actually seen a version of Highrise included as one of the “points of interest” on the full Warzone 2 map.

On that note, those same leakers have reported that Call of Duty‘s classic Quarry, Terminal, and Afghan maps will all be featured in Warzone 2 in some capacity. If you’re really curious, here’s a rundown of all the Warzone 2 points of interest that have been leaked so far (courtesy of Charlie Intel):

  • Oasis
  • Wartorn
  • Quarry (Quarry)
  • Oilfield
  • Modern City (Highrise)
  • Caves (Afghan)
  • Dam
  • Marshes
  • Harbor
  • Sira
  • Observatory
  • Mountain Town (assumed Favela)
  • Graveyard
  • Oldtown
  • Shipwreck
  • Fishtown
  • Fort
  • Airport (Terminal)

Based on the official information we’ve heard so far about the Warzone 2 map and the historic accuracy of some of these leakers and reporters, it really does feel like the Modern Warfare 2 trailer may have doubled as a sneaky preview of at least one section of the final Warzone 2 map.

Whether or not you should take that to mean that the mock-up map featured above is entirely accurate is up for debate (details are always subject to change), but you should know that all of this makes sense. Not only do the CoD battle royale maps typically incorporate landmarks modeled after CoD multiplayer maps, but the CoD teams love to sneakily reveal maps and updates via promotional material. We likely won’t get a full, official look at Warzone 2‘s map until much later this year, but I’d be shocked if the final version of the real deal didn’t end up confirming a lot of the information that has been leaked so far.

While Warzone has sometimes struggled to maintain that incredible momentum that elevated the game’s surprise launch in 2020, the battle royale remains a favorite among CoD‘s massive global fanbase. While it sounds like Warzone 2 may force those players to essentially reset all of their progress so far, there is a sense that Warzone 2 may just be the battle royale that fully realizes the potential of the entire Warzone concept.
